The USDA recently announced that new plant breeding techniques, specifically the use of CRISPR to bring in genes from wild relatives of crop plants, will not be regulated as GMOs. I realize that this technology makes many people uneasy, and it is also the subject of my PhD thesis, so I made this video to talk about why it is safe for farmworkers, consumers, and the environment.
